Rovers boss Paul Lambert has revealed that the club have opened talks with Leicester City about extending Tom Lawrence's stay at Ewood Park.

The 21-year-old attacker's current loan deal ends after the Cardiff City match at the turn of the year, but having impressed during the first half of the season, the manager is keen to retain his services.

"We've touched base with Leicester and we'll hopefully know something in the next few weeks about what is going to happen," said the manager.

"Looking at Leicester you'd think they'd go out and strengthen anyway with the position they are in, but we have already spoken to them.

"If we can do it then great, Tom is certainly one I'd like to keep."

As well as securing Lawrence, the Rovers boss is eager to bolster his squad.

With the Football League transfer embargo having been lifted last month, the club is able to strengthen once the January transfer window opens.

He added: "There is a lot of work to get down in a lot of areas in January.

"We can do little things, we can't go out and go mad at it because of the way it is, but we'll try to improve it.

"We can move a little bit more freely and that is all you can ask for."
