Under-21s to take on West Bromwich Albion

24 August 2015

Rovers' Under-21s continue their league campaign this evening when they face West Bromwich Albion at Tamworth FC.

Damien Johnson's development squad will look to build on an encouraging display last time out when they drew 1-1 at Newcastle United thanks to a first goal of the season from Anton Forrester.

Tonight's match will be another good test for Rovers as they come up against a West Brom side who have won their two opening games this season.

The Baggies kicked off with a 2-1 away win over Swansea City, before beating West Ham by the same scoreline last Monday.

Last season saw Rovers have the upper hand over the Albion in the two games between them.

At Leigh Sports Village back in October, goals from Yann Songo'o and Jordan Preston saw Rovers twice came from behind to earn a point in at 2-2 draw.

The blue and whites then followed that up with a 1-0 win over the Baggies at the end of March, a first half penalty from Bradley Bauress sealing the points at the Hawthorns.

Johnson has named youthful squad for this evening's match, with just a smattering of first team experience in their ranks.

Rovers will select from Crump, Thomson, Edgar, Grayson, Lavelle, Wharton, Mahoney, Tomlinson, Green, Carson, Doyle, Mansell, Fisher, Wall, Hardcastle, Cham, Joel.

Kick-off at Tamworth FC is at 7.00pm.
