Striker doubt for Saturday

20 August 2015

Jordan Rhodes is a doubt to be fit in time for this weekend's match against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Rovers striker missed Tuesday night's draw with Cardiff City with an ankle injury picked up against Huddersfield at the weekend, and is likely to miss out on the south coast clash.

The club will leave it until the last possible moment to see if Rhodes is fit for a return to action, but he won't be rushed back too soon.

"He is working ever so hard to get fit and we are going to give him as long as possible," said Rovers boss Gary Bowyer on Thursday.

"It is one of those where you go day-by-day and see how he goes with that.

"It was a hell of a whack that he took on it but he is in the best possible hands and hopefully we'll see him return as quickly as possible.

"We'll monitor him and hopefully he'll get back for Saturday, if not, then we'll continue with the lads that went and made an outstanding effort on Tuesday."

Rovers have better news on the injury front with fellow striker Fode Koita.

After making his first start in Rovers colours at Ewood in midweek, an existing knee injury forced him off at the break, but the Frenchman should be fit to face the Seagulls.

"Fode got a knock the day before so we knew it was a risk," added Bowyer.

"But the lad was keen to make his full debut and you've seen the impact that he had as a sub.

"We didn't quite see that impact on Tuesday night but I'm sure that he'll be fine for Saturday and then we'll have a decision to make.

"Chris Taylor is progressing ever so well so after the international break we should certainly hope to see him featuring again.

"Chris Brown just felt his knee a little bit so he is on a programme to make sure that that is cleared up again, and Corry will hopefully be ready for the weekend."
