Rovers boost attacking options

6 August 2015

Rovers have made their fourth signing of the summer with the capture of forward Nathan Delfouneso.

The former England Under-21 international has put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal following a successful trial this summer.

Delfouneso started his career with Aston Villa, becoming their youngest ever player to represent the club in Europe when he made his debut as a 17-year-old in the UEFA Cup.

After breaking into the first team under Martin O'Neill, international honours soon followed, with the Birmingham-born forward regularly representing England's Under-19s and Under-21s where he was a team-mate of Jason Lowe, Ben Marshall and Jason Steele.

Able to play out wide or through the middle, the forward also enjoyed loan spells with Burnley,  Leicester City, Blackpool and Coventry City.

After scoring nine goals in 50 appearances during his time at Villa, Delfouneso returned to Bloomfield Road last season, penning a one-year deal with the Seasiders.

This summer saw the 24-year-old link up with Rovers during pre-season, scoring on his first outing in the 2-0 win over Oldham Athletic and impressing in the games against Bury and Wigan, prompting boss Gary Bowyer to secure his services ahead of Saturday's Championship opener at Ewood Park against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
