Gary Bowyer hopes talented keeper David Raya will learn to choose the right moment to play out from the back after his mistake in Tuesday night's draw.
The 19-year-old's error lead to gifting Cardiff City the opening goal in the midweek match at Ewood, before fellow Academy graduate Grant Hanley spared his blushes with the leveller two minutes from time.
The manager has been delighted with the way the young Spaniard has performed in goal for Rovers, but admits the Raya must learn from the experience.
"He's a young goalkeeper and you saw goals in the Championship this week where the goalkeeper has made mistakes and there are far more experienced goalkeepers than him," said Bowyer.
"Unfortunate for the position when you do make a mistake it tends to get highlighted a lot more than a striker missing or a midfielder misplacing a pass.
"He knows that, that is the position he has chosen to play, and he'll only be better for the experience as long as he learns. He'll go through the video again make sure that it doesn't happen again.
"He has the ability to be consistant with his feet and it is a major part of his game, so you wouldn't want to be taking that necessarily away from him.
"He's a young goalkeeper, he is learning his trade and he needs to learn quickly now because he's in with the big boys, but potentially this lad can go a long, long way."
Rovers and Raya are back in action this Saturday when they travel to the south coast to take on Brighton & Hove Albion.
