Rovers Under-18s put in an impressive display to earn a 2-2 draw in a friendly with Bala Town on Friday night.
With no league match scheduled at the weekend, the Rovers Academy used the opportunity to return to Maes Tegid for the third year running to face the vastly experienced Welsh Premier League side.
After a competitive, yet goalless first half, Rovers grabbed the opening goal ten minutes into the second period through Olly Mehew.
A great through ball from Alex Curran saw the forward claim possession and he curled a superb right-footed effort into the far corner.
However the home side soon hit back when Joe Rankin-Costello fouled David Thompson in the area, Conall Murtagh converting from the spot.
Mark Connolly then put the home side in front when he headed home a centre, but the young Rovers showed tremendous spirit to get back on level terms with ten minutes to go.
Rankin-Costello's pass into the penalty area picked out the run of Mehew and he finished well for his second of the game.
The Lakesiders peppered the Rovers goal for a winner in the closing stages, with keeper Andy Fisher making several key saves to keep the score at 2-2.
"It was a great test for us against an experienced side," said assistant Under-18s coach Ian Jones.
"Bala looked after us really well and the lads performed superbly. It was an excellent match played in a great spirit."
