Rovers Under-21s made it a hat-trick of league wins with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday afternoon.

After triumphs over West Bromwich Albion and Derby County, Eric Kinder's young side completed a fine treble with the win over Wolves.

David Carson's superb solo goal in the 19th minute settled the match in Rovers' favour, the midfielder stealing the ball before advancing and cooly slotting home.

To their credit Wolves battled hard for a way back into the game, but Rovers held out for another clean sheet and another three points.

There was little between the two sides as the game got underway at a sunny Brockhall, with few opportunities in the opening quarter of the game.

But just before the 20 minute mark it was Rovers who broke the deadlock.

As Wolves looked to play the ball out from the back, captain Carson stole in to claim possession, he then showed good composure to beat another defender before firing into the bottom corner of the net.

The visitors tried to hit back but couldn't find a way through a resolute Rovers back line. Goalkeeper Ryan Crump saved well from a deflected effort, whilst the central defensive pair of Sam Lavelle and Sam Jones threw their bodies to block when it mattered.

The second half started with another important block from a Wolves break, Kellen Daly the man on this occasion to thwart the opposition.

At the other end Lewis Mansell and Lewis Hardcastle were unfortunate to see their efforts blocked, before Connor Mahoney was just over from Carson's clever pass.

As the match entered it's closing stages it was the visitors who pushed and pushed. A huge scramble in the box on 79 saw Lee Evans fire wide when well placed.

Then after great work from Mansell to win the ball, Connor Thomson saw his effort saved by Jonathan Flatt in goal.

But the best chance for Wolves to get back on level terms came with two minutes left,  Eusebio Bancessi firing over the bar when the ball dropped to the substitute in the area.

Rovers saw out the remaining minutes to register their third successive victory and yet another clean sheet.
