Ready to put on a performance

4 April 2015

Tom Cairney aims to put one over former club Leeds United when the two sides meet at Elland Road this afternoon.

The Rovers midfielder came through the ranks at the Yorkshire club until his release at the age of 16.

Cairney admits games against Leeds are ones he always looks forward to and it will be no different this Saturday.

"On a personal level this is a really big game for me," said the 24-year-old. "I was there from when I was 7 until I was 16.

"I've a lot of family that still live around there so it is always nice playing at Elland Road because it is a Premier League stadium with a Premier League fanbase, so it is always nice going back there."

Rovers will be looking to repeat the performance, and the result, from when the two sides met at Elland Road on New Years Day last season, as the Lancashire club came away with all three points in a 2-1 win.

Cairney added: "I have good memories of my first start back there as a player. I think it should have been about 4-0 at half-time. We should have had a penalty, they should have had a man sent off, it was probably one of the best first halves to be involved in.

"It was definitely a good performance but it will be tough this Saturday."

Rovers go into this afternoon's match looking to get back to winning ways after heading into the international break off the back of two defeats. With Cairney admitting the loss to Brentford took the wind from their sails.

"The run before the break, I've never experienced anything like it," added the midfielder. "It was really tough, there was no denying it.

"We were winning games, we were playing well, we could have won the Brentford game but when we got beat it knocked us a bit and then Brighton we weren't ourselves.

"So the break has come at a good time, we'll be fresh and looking to put a performance on at Elland Road."

Tickets for this afternoon's match against Leeds United will be available from the ticket office adjacent to the away turnstiles. Matchday prices are £39 Adults, £23 Seniors (60+), full time students and young adults aged 16-21, Under 16s can see the game for £16.
