Ladies eye county cup prize

12 April 2015

Rovers Ladies are set to appear in an astonishing 12th consecutive Lancashire Women’s Challenge Cup final when they face Morecambe on Monday night.

Rovers have dominated the coveted competition in recent years, but have finished runners-up in the past two seasons.

The ladies recorded impressive 10-0 victories in their first two matches of the tournament, before eventually seeing off rivals Preston after a controversial semi-final replay.

Now, manager Gemma Donnelly is keen to bring the trophy back to Rovers.

“We are up against lower league opposition and we will make sure there are no slip-ups,” said a defiant Donnelly. “Hopefully it will be third time lucky for us after missing out on the last two occasions.

“Our players know how passionate the club is about the competition and they will be striving to bring the trophy back home.

“We should have close on a full compliment of players to pick from and we are expecting a decent crowd, so it will be an exciting evening for everyone involved.”

The match takes place at the Lancashire FA Headquarters, County Ground, Leyland with a 7.30pm kick-off.
