Gary Bowyer was delighted with the display of debutant David Raya in yesterday's victory over Leeds United.
The Rovers boss sprang something of a surprise when he handed the 19-year-old goalkeeper his first senior appearance, but Raya didn't look fazed as he kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 away win.
The young Spaniard was rarely threatened in a composed display by Rovers, but when called upon he dealt with everything that came his way, much to the delight of his manager.
"We lost Simon Eastwood to a knock in training on Friday," Bowyer told Rovers Player.
"David is cup-tied for Wednesday so we couldn't take the risk of anything happening to Jason Steele it was as simple as that.
"We've always had loads of confidence in David, he's got a bright future ahead of him, so it made sense to do that.
"I think you've seen the value in terms of the philosophy that we have in sending young players out on loan. He's played at Derby in the FA Cup and that is a hell of a stadium with a good crowd there as well.
"So we had no worries about that, he is a confident lad, a good lad, very humble and I thought he was accomplished today.
"I thought David made one outstanding save in the first half, it could have been a difficult day in terms of the atmosphere, but for 19 he looked really assured.
"Credit to our back four and the rest of the lads, they had every confidence in him, they see him week in, week out in training and know what he is capable of."
Rovers are back in action this Wednesday night when they take on Liverpool in their FA Cup quarter-final replay at Ewood Park.
