Boss Gary Bowyer was full of praise for the performance of makeshift defender Darragh Lenihan on Tuesday night.
The 21-year-old was handed his Rovers debut in the win over Millwall, coming on as a first half substitute to replace the injured Matt Kilgallon.
Lenihan's preferred position is in the centre of midfield, but has played in defence before, filling in to great effect as Rovers kept a clean sheet to go with all three points.
"Darragh Lenihan came in and I thought he did ever so well," Bowyer told Radio Rovers.
"Generally he's classed himself as a midfielder. We experimented with him in the reserves about a year ago playing him at centre half and thank god we did because that experience has helped him.
"He was keen in one or two areas to try and win it when he didn't need to but overall I'm delighted with him.
"It shows you the attitude that he's got and that is why we wanted him back after his loan at Burton and it looks now that he'll get a run of games certainly with what we've got now.
"The lad is a winner, he does everything that he possibly can correct, both on and off the pitch, and he looks after himself. He looked very confident in his own ability.
"It was an impressive performance from him and I'm delighted for him as he's waited a long time."
Lenihan could be handed his first Rovers start this weekend when they travel to face Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium.
