Gary Bowyer hopes the Ewood crowd give local hero David Dunn a great send-off when he brings his Rovers career to a end this weekend.

Monday saw the Rovers stalwart pen an open letter to supporters to announce his intention to leave the club after the conclusion of the season, ending his 27-year association with his boyhood team.

Bowyer has signalled his intentions to play the 35-year-old in the final game of the campaign against Ipswich Town on Saturday, and believes Dunn will one day return to manage the football club.

"Between now and him leaving there will be a hell of a lot of plaudits going his way and rightly so as what he has done for this football club is unbelievable, it is immense," said the Rovers boss.

"He's come through the Academy and has gone on to represent England whilst at Blackburn Rovers. We've always used him as a role model for the younger players, in this day and age I'm not sure we'll see many more types like him.

"He's is a legend at Blackburn Rovers and a massive fan of the club who still is and always will be.

"The qualities he's got throughout his career I'm sure that they will continue in his quest to become a manager.

"And one day, in my opinion, he will manage Blackburn Rovers, and I look forward to that day.

"It's sad that it's coming to an end but, like he's said himself, all things do come to an end. We just hope we can give him a proper send off at the weekend

"He will be involved for sure and we hope the public of Blackburn come out and show their appreciation to a true Blackburn Rovers legend.

"It will be emotional for Dunny, for his granddad, and for the rest of his family, and it's up to the rest of us, the players, staff and supporters, to give him a right good send off and one he fully deserves.

"He's been truly remarkable for this club and, whether we see the type of him again, I'm not too sure."
