Ben Marshall was delighted that his goals secured a 3-1 win over Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The midfielder put in a Man of the Match display with a stunning brace as Rovers maintained their unbeaten home league start to the campaign.

After James Perch had shocked the hosts by giving Wigan the lead on 51 a Marshall-inspired Rovers roared back to claim all three points. The former Leicester man scoring twice either side of a Jordan Rhodes header.

Speaking to Radio Rovers after the match, Marshall said: "To get one and get off the mark would have been good enough, but to manage to get two I'm delighted.

"When we went 1-0 down I was thinking that we needed to get one back quick and thankfully I managed to put one in and we seemed to kick on from there.

"Then Jordan scored again, it doesn't surprise anyone that he turned up and headed one in.

"They still had a shout at 2-1 but they didn't look like scoring and when we went 3-1 up I think that killed it.

"Some days they go over the bar, but today everything seemed to be hitting the target."

Marshall could have had more goals to his name on an impressive afternoon, Carson saving well from another long-range effort, whilst a stunning volley that flew in off the crossbar was ruled out for an infringement from a corner.

The 23-year-old admits he's playing with confidence and believes the team can take heart from the Wigan win into Wednesday night's match against Derby County.

"Scoring the two goals gets your confidence right up," added Marshall. "The more games you play the fitter you get and hopefully I can kick on and get a few more goals.

"I think we can start believing that we've really got a chance. I think the big test is Wednesday against Derby.

"If we can get the three points against them then we've to go to Fulham, really put a shift in and hopefully we can have a good week."
