Rovers Ladies star Lynda Shepherd helped Northern Ireland Women end their World Cup qualifying campaign on a high following a 3-0 victory over the Faroe Islands in Lurgan last night.
The 29-year-old, who returned to Rovers from Manchester City in the summer, played the full 90 minutes for Alfie Wylie’s side, who ended their nine-game goal drought in emphatic fashion.
Rachel Furness opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 21 minutes, before Julie Nelson doubled the hosts’ lead early in the second half with a superbly-struck free-kick.
Furness grabbed her second of the game in added time, as Northern Ireland finished second from bottom in Group Four, with five points.
Shepherd, who now has nine caps for her country, had also played the full match as the girls in green lost 4-0 away to Poland four days earlier.
