Make the week count

12 September 2014

Ben Marshall will be going all out to get a good result against Wigan Athletic to kick-start a tricky week of fixtures.

Starting with the Latics at Ewood Park this Saturday, Rovers have three games in seven days. Derby at home on Wednesday followed by Fulham at Craven Cottage the following weekend.

The midfielder believes positive performances against the trio of promotion-chasing teams this week will show the team's Championship credentials.

"I think if we can get good results against them then it'll prove that we've got what it takes to go up," Marshall told Rovers Player.

"Games like that where you win proves to yourself and the team that you are capable of going up and you start to believe more.

"You want to be challenging yourself against the best teams in the Championship and if you can go and get the win and play well individually then it is good."

Marshall feels Rovers have a squad capable of taking on the best, but knows they have to show it against Uwe Rosler's Wigan.

"You look at the players that we've got and who we have brought in, there are going to be players challenging for places which only bring the best out of you," added the 23-year-old.

"It is down to us at the end of the day, but I think if we can get it right we've definitely got the ability to go up.

"If we can get a result against Wigan I think it kind of cancels out against Wolves a little bit.  Then it is up to us to push on again, if we can beat Wigan then why can't we beat the other two teams?

"Hopefully we can get a result and get going."
