King goes close

4 September 2014

Josh King caught the eye, as Norway slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat to England at Wembley.

The Rovers winger spearheaded Norway’s attack and had their two best chances of the game.

On 50 minutes, he met a corner from the left with a powerful header, which forced a fine fingertip save from Joe Hart and just three minutes later, he burst into the box, but was again denied by Hart at his near post.

England grabbed the game’s only goal on 68 minutes when newly-appointed captain Wayne Rooney scored from the spot after Raheem Sterling had been brought down inside the box.

King, who was making his 12th appearance for his country, was replaced by Havard Nielsen on 76 minutes.

The 22-year-old will hope to retain his starting spot when Norway kick-off their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign at home to Italy next Tuesday.
