Rovers sadness over death of former goalkeeper.
Blackburn Rovers are saddened to learn of the death of former player John Barton, aged 72.
Barton, who started his footballing career with neighbours Preston North End, joined Rovers in 1966 for a fee of £6,000.
Rovers legend Bryan Douglas, who played alongside the goalkeeper towards the tail-end of his career, was sad to hear the news.
He said: “He was a good, honest professional. He started off at Preston and played as a 16-year-old in the first team. He came to us and played quite a few games.”
During a seven-year spell at Ewood Park, the keeper made 72 appearances for Rovers.
The club would like to offer its condolences to John's family and friends at this sad time.
