Injury bonus for Bowyer

25 September 2014

Blackburn Rovers have been given an injury boost ahead of Saturday's match against Watford.

Midfield duo Lee Williamson and Tom Cairney could both be available for selection for the match at Ewood despite the pair missing the second half of Saturday's win over Fulham.

Williamson has recovered from the leg injury sustained in the challenge that saw Fulham defender Shaun Hutchinson red carded and the Rovers player stretchered off. Whilst Cairney, who sustained an ankle knock early on in the match, could too come into contention.

Rovers will also have fellow midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe available for selection after being ineligible to face the Cottagers.

Speaking on Thursday, boss Gary Bowyer said: "We've had some good news today in that both Lee Williamson and Tom Cairney have trained so we are delighted with that.

"With Willo it was first feared that it was a lot worse than what it was. Fortunately with rest and the treatment that he's received his is back in contention.

"Tom Cairney is the same, he's had some lovely colours on his foot this week, but he has trained today and looked good. So we are delighted with that because we've not been blessed with much luck on that score but we've had a little bit this week.

"There shouldn't be any reaction from either of them so we've got another tough decision to make in terms of who plays - but it is a nice decision to have."

Rovers will still be without Jason Lowe (ankle), David Dunn (knee) and Paul Robinson (knee), whilst Tommy Spurr (groin) and Chris Brown (knee) are edging closer to a return.

"Lowey and Dunny have been working hard in the gym against each other so that has been good and competitive," added the manager.

"Tommy Spurr joined in with us for the first bit today which is really good news, and Chris Brown is working his socks off in the gym and is nearing coming out on the grass.

"His work ethic is unbelievable so we are delighted with the progress that he has made.

"We are hopeful that after the international break we should have a real selection problem."
