Disappointment for Darragh

6 September 2014

Darragh Lenihan made his first competitive start for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s but was unable to prevent them from slipping to a narrow 2-0 defeat to Germany in Halle.

The Rovers midfielder played the full match for Noel King’s young side, who gave a good account of themselves in their final fixture of the UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifying round.

After a goalless first-half, Group 6 winners Germany took control early in the second-half thanks to goals in quick succession from Philipp Hofmann and Jonas Hofmann.

The Irish will play Norway in a friendly in October before looking towards the next qualifying campaign in 2015.
