Defender's debut delight

23 September 2014

Shane Duffy was delighted to see Rovers get back to winning ways thanks to Saturday's 1-0 win over Fulham.

The Republic of Ireland made his first start in the Craven Cottage encounter, putting in a strong display at the back as Rovers claimed another three points and a first clean sheet of the season.

After the narrow midweek loss at the hands of Derby County, the defender knew it was important to register another victory as quickly as possible and was pleased to play his part.

"To get the clean sheet and the win was important after the defeat in midweek," said Duffy. "So I'm delighted.

"We made hard work of it but they aren't a bad team. They went for it at the end so we just had to show the quality that we've got in the squad to see games out like that.

"If we keep a clean sheet then we've a great chance to win games because we've got Jordan and Rudy up front who will get the goals.

"So the most important thing is the win and we now move onto Saturday, keep the momentum and hopefully push up the league."

After a midweek substitute appearance, Duffy was delighted to make his first start for his new club, and now hopes he's done enough to retain a place in the starting eleven for Saturday's home match against Watford.

"I've had to be patient because the two lads who have played have been brilliant," added the defender. "I was fortunate to get my chance so hopefully I've taken it.

"I'm buzzing to be back out there, it has been a long time since I've played 90 minutes."

Rovers are back in action this Saturday at 3.00pm when Watford are the visitors to Ewood Park.

Tickets are currently on sale priced from £17 for Adults, from £11 for Seniors & Students and from just £6 for Under-17s.
