Bowyer pleased with increased competition

12 September 2014

Boss Gary Bowyer is delighted with the way his three deadline day signings have settled into their new surroundings at the football club.

Rovers added defender Shane Duff, midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe and goalkeeper Jason Steele to their ranks on a busy day of dealings as the summer transfer window drew to a close, and they've quickly adapted to Lancashire life.

"The three of them have settled in great," revealed Bowyer.

"All three of them have been exactly what we thought they would be and more, so we are delighted with the progress that they are making.

"What it has done is it has raised the intensity of training because there is some fresh blood in the squad. Everybody is fighting for a shirt which is something that we are proud of.

"It has taken the time - like we said it would - but we feel we are getting there."

All three could come into contention for a place in the squad for Saturday's home match against Wigan Athletic, giving the manager something of a selection headache.

"It is something that we've not really had throughout the time here with numbers and injuries," added the Rovers boss. "In all areas of the pitch now we've got masses of competition.

"But the actual quality now that we've got in the squad is something that we are really pleased with.

"If you look at what we are trying to build, it is not just for now, it is hopefully for a number of years for these lads at Blackburn Rovers."

Tickets for Saturday's match against the Latics will be on sale up until the 3.00pm kick-off, priced from £21 for Adults, from £13 for Seniors/Students and from £8 for Under-17s.
