Marshall grateful to Pearce for England experience

25 October 2014

Ben Marshall comes up against one of his former mentors at the City Ground this afternoon.

For the Rovers star was given his first taste of international football by Nottingham Forest boss Stuart Pearce.

It was as England Under-21 boss that Pearce called up Marshall, handing him two caps at that level.

"He's a good manager," said the Rovers midfielder. "He is very well spoken, the players know what they are going to get with him.

"It was a good experience playing for your country, it was a good squad we had.

"I'd never played for England up to the 21s, so apart from playing for the first team I think that's the most important one.

"So to get in that side was a good personal achievement for me. It was good and something I'll never forget."

Marshall and Rovers are back in action this Saturday afternoon against Nottingham Forest. Tickets are on sale cash only from the City Ground, priced £28.00 Adults, £20.00 Seniors (aged 65+), £14.00 Under 18, and £1.00 for Under 12.
