Injury worries easing

16 October 2014

Gary Bowyer has positive news on the injury front ahead of this Saturday's trip to Portman Road.

Rovers were without eight players last time out against Huddersfield, but following the international break the treatment table is looking a little lighter ahead of the weekend match against Ipswich Town.

The manager could welcome back five players to his squad, but doubts remain over Grant Hanley and Josh King who both picked up knocks on international duty.

Speaking on Thursday afternoon, Bowyer said: "Corry Evans has come back fit and well which is good for us, but Grant Hanley and Josh King have returned with injuries.

"So we'll assess them more tomorrow morning. We've another 24 hours before we make the journey there, so we'll see how they respond to treatment and a bit of training and see if they can make the squad.

"On a positive note Rudy is back, he's trained all week, so has Tom Cairney. Alex Baptiste has trained today for the first time as well, so we'll see how he recovers from that, but we expect him to be in the squad.

"Robbo has been back in, Dunny has had a good ten days with us now, so he'll go in the squad for Saturday that is for sure. "The international break can come at a good time or a bad time. I think with the number of people that we've had missing it came at a good time for us."

Rovers will still be without a trio of players as Tommy Spurr (groin), Chris Brown (knee) and Jason Lowe (foot) remained sidelined.

"Lowey is getting frustrated with it, there's nothing he can do as it is a stress fracture," added the Rovers boss. "We'd hoped with the international break that we'd certainly got some positive news on it. It is healing but it is taking longer than we'd all want.

"Browny, we hope, will go outside on Monday with the fitness lads, so that is good in the sense that he is stepping it up, so if he goes out on Monday he won't be too far away.

"Tommy we are just being a little bit careful with. He was scheduled to be involved with the Under-21s on Friday night but we've decided to keep him here."
