Following on from Euro 2016 wins over Hungary and the Faroe Islands, Northern Ireland continued their fine start with an impressive 2-0 win over Greece. The first time they have started a qualifying campaign with three straight victories.

Evans missed out on the weekend win over the Faroese, but returned to play the full match in Piraeus, earning his 23rd cap for his country.

The Irish got off to the perfect start, taking the lead inside the opening ten minutes when Derby County's Jamie Ward saw his shot deflect home.

The hosts struggled to gain any momentum as they looked for a way back into the game, but it was Michael O'Neill's side who were the dominant side.

Their endeavours were rewarded when a second goal arrived minutes into the second half. Kyle Lafferty, who had earlier struck the crossbar, made no mistake with a cool finish after outpacing the Greek defence.

The win leaves Northern Ireland at the top of Group F, two points clear of Romania who they face in Bucharest in their next qualifier in November.
