Gary Bowyer is anticipating another stern test of their credentials when they take on the Royals at Ewood on Saturday.
Rovers go into the match in excellent form off the back of two wins and two draws from their last four outings, but come up against a Reading side boosted by their victory over Blackpool last time out.
"They had a good win on Saturday," said the Rovers boss. "Prior to that they'd obviously conceded some goals in the previous games.
"But I think they've got a very good manager in Nigel Adkins, he goes about playing the game in the right way."
The Rovers boss feels that Reading are in a false position in the league, but whilst he expects them to rise up the table, he hopes it is after the two sides meet.
"Reading are a team that could quite easily find themselves in the play-offs in a month's time with the games that come thick and fast," added Bowyer.
"They are a very good team, we are aware of that. Their league position is probably a little bit false for the calibre of player that they've got at the moment.
"So we are under no illusions that it is going to be a very tough game.
"We just have to have a right good go at them. We are at home, we've had some impressive performances at home that haven't warranted the results that we got, but we'll have a good go."
