Rovers girls reach second round

4 November 2014

Rovers' Centre of Excellence Under-17s progressed to the second round of FA Girls' Youth Cup courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Sheffield.

In a closely-contested affair, there was nothing to choose between the two teams early on, before Rovers soon started to take control and create chances.

The breakthrough arrived on the half-hour mark, with Leah Foster getting the game's opening goal, before keeper Katie Maher pulled off a superb save to preserve Rovers' lead.

Sheffield came out strongly at the start of the second half, but Rovers absorbed the pressure and scored a second through Ella Toone on 65 minutes.

Rovers were rampant from then on, dominating possession, without adding to their tally, as they safely secured their place in round two.

ROVERS: Maher, Singleton, Samuels, Cooke (Kay 78), Dean, Taylor, McPartlan, Pearson (Huckenhall 65), Toone, Adams (Johnson 67), Foster.
