Brown boost for Boro clash

27 November 2014

Chris Brown will make a welcome return to the first team squad for this weekend's match with Middlesbrough.

The Rovers striker came through Tuesday's Lancashire Senior Cup match with Manchester United unscathed and could be named amongst the substitutes for only the second time this season.

A troublesome knee injury had sidelined the former Doncaster man for the first half of the campaign, but after a couple of matches for the development squad, boss Gary Bowyer is delighted to welcome him back.

"Browny will be traveling with us to Middlesbrough," revealed the manager.

"He came through the Lancashire Senior Cup game and he'll be in the squad and hopefully on the bench.

"So we are delighted with that, he has worked ever so hard, it is like a new signing for us."

Jason Steele can't play against his parent club this weekend, whilst Tom Cairney serves a one-match suspension following his red card in the 2-1 win over Leeds United last Saturday.

This leaves the manager with something of a selection headache, but he's sure whatever changes he makes, the players who come in will do their best.

"Obviously we are without Tom Cairney this week," added Bowyer. "Whilst Steele can't play against Middlesbrough.

"So it is a difficult call but I'm sure whoever we go with will give their upmost for the team."

Elsewhere Jason Lowe and Josh King are both stepping up their fitness, but Tommy Spurr isn't yet ready to resume full training.

"Jason Lowe should join back in training hopefully next week," added the Rovers boss.

"Kingy is back out on the grass which is good as last week we were just a little bit concerned that it was taking a little bit longer, but he's made really good progress this week.

"Tommy is the one this week that is a little bit slow but you can't fault that kid's effort that is for sure."

Tickets for Saturday's game go off sale at Ewood at 4pm on Friday and at 5.30pm from the Oneroverstore on Church Street, Blackburn this Thursday.
