Rovers superfan Alan 'Birdy' Birkbeck was one of the night’s big winners at the MBNA Northwest Football Awards in Manchester.
Birdy, who has devoted his entire life to the club, was presented with the Unsung Hero award by Rovers’ managing director Derek Shaw.
The 65-year-old, who lives just a stone’s throw away from Ewood Park, was hoping to go up on stage to collect the Best Club Sponsorship/Marketing & Engagement award for the part he played in the #birdysdate promotional home kit launch video, so was shocked to scoop another accolade.
"I came here hoping to get a different award for the club and this is beyond my wildest dreams,” he said. “I never expected this.
"I have followed Rovers all my life and this club is my life. We have had good times and bad times, but I think we are coming back."
Also on the night, former Rovers manager Kenny Dalglish, who guided the club to the Premiership title 20 years ago this season, received the Lifetime Contribution award, whilst former Rovers youngster Joe Garner bagged a brace – winning the Goal of the Year and League One Player of the Year awards.
