Spurr extends Ewood stay

7 May 2014

The club is delighted to announce that defender Tommy Spurr will remain in Rovers’ colours for the next two years.

Following a superb debut season at Ewood Park, the left-back has extended his contract by a further 12 months, through to June 2016.

Signed on a free transfer from Doncaster Rovers last summer, the 26-year-old started 43 consecutive Championship fixtures for Rovers, scoring three goals.

A firm favourite with the fans and one of the most popular members of the playing squad, Spurr came third in the 2013-14 Player of the Year poll.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first season with the club and I’m delighted to extend my contract by a further year,” he said.

“When the opportunity arose to come to such a big club like Blackburn and play with the calibre of players that are here, I jumped at it and I think it has helped me personally in my performances.

“I'm just glad to have played as many games as I have and I will keep working hard to try and have another consistent campaign next year, when hopefully we can make a real push for promotion.”
