Rovers’ rising stars rewarded

21 May 2014

Keira Walsh was the night’s big winner at Blackburn Rovers’ Centre of Excellence annual awards evening.

The 17-year-old playmaker picked up the Special Achievement award after a breakthrough season for both club and country.

Keira, who has spent six seasons with the Centre, made her debut for England Women’s Under-19s at the end of January, before successfully stepping up to the Rovers Ladies first team a month later.

She netted three times in nine league starts for Gemma Donnelly’s side, including the Ladies’ 2013-14 Goal of the Season winner for her stunning strike away to Derby County in March.

It was also a night to remember for defender Hannah Godfrey, who picked up the Manager’s Player and Players’ Player awards for Rovers Under-17s, who reached the semi-finals of this season’s FA Girls’ Youth Cup.
