Rovers’ first team stars were joined by some pint-sized protégés at the training ground, as part of the Academy’s recruitment policy for attracting the best local talent.
The club’s Under-7s and Under-8s were invited to spend a ‘Special Day’ with the senior squad to give them an insight into what life is like for a professional player at Blackburn Rovers.
The annual event, which was staged on the new artificial pitch at Brockhall, provided the excited youngsters with the chance to take part in a series of fun-filled sessions with their footballing favourites.
The first team players, including home-grown heroes Grant Hanley and Jason Lowe, then posed for photos and signed autographs for the mini-marvels, who will hopefully follow in their footsteps by progressing through Rovers’ youth ranks.
Manager Gary Bowyer, who started out as Rovers’ youth team coach, said: “Having come through the Academy system ourselves, in terms of coaching, I think it’s massively important.
“For them to come and join in with the first team is a big thing for them and we hope that secures their signatures and then obviously we look forward to them progressing with their careers at Blackburn Rovers, because it’s getting harder and harder to recruit players.
“That said, our first team lads mixed in ever so well and made the day even more special for them and we were delighted with how they were as well.”
