Under-21s boss Eric Kinder was delighted with his side's performance as they defeated Newcastle United 2-1 at Ewood Park.
Wins have been hard to come by for the young Rovers this season, but they put in an encouraging display on home soil to defeat the Magpies comfortably on Monday evening.
Paulo Jorge opened the scoring with a stunning 12th minute strike, and although Rolando Aarons levelled on the half hour, it was a rare Newcastle attack as goalkeeper Simon Eastwood was hardly involved.
Rovers came on stronger in the second half, creating a host of decent opportunities, but they only needed one to win the game and that came form Jordan Preston on 55 minutes. The Scottish Under-19 international finishing from close range after pressure from a corner.
Speaking to Rovers Player after the game, Kinder said: "I'm very pleased, I'm pleased with every aspect of the game tonight."
"I thought in the second half tonight we played really well.
"We created four or five chances and if we'd have put one of those away it would have made the last nine minutes of injury time a bit easier to take.
"But I'm delighted with them, I thought they stuck to the game plan, they worked extremely hard out of possession and regained possession well.
"In the first half I thought we were a bit sloppy with our passing but it is an improvement. You've seen that over the last month that they've been getting better and training has been better as well. So we got our rewards tonight.
"It is very pleasing because it has been a difficult season for us. The young players are now taking on board what we are asking of them and telling them to do and when they believe in that and do what they've done tonight then they get their rewards."
Rovers Player subscribers will be able to watch full match highlights of the game later this Tuesday.
