Enjoy the experience - Gemma

15 March 2014

Rovers Ladies will be looking to cause an upset when they take on Reading in the fourth round of the FA Women’s Cup this weekend.

Gemma Donnelly’s side go into the game against the Women’s Super League newcomers with everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Rovers reached this stage of the competition courtesy of victories over North East opposition, beating Whitley Bay 1-0 and Middlesbrough 3-0, whilst Reading ran out 2-1 winners at Millwall in the last round.

Reading, who are managed by former Wales and Arsenal captain Jayne Ludlow, will provide a much tougher test, but Donnelly insists it should be an experience to savour for her young side.

“We are very much looking forward to the fixture,” said Rovers’ interim manager.

"We've had a good cup run up to now. We are under no illusions that this game is going to be very difficult.

"Reading are tipped to be table toppers in WSL2 for this coming season, so inevitably we go in as the underdogs, which is good, because it takes the pressure off the girls.

"We've done really well to get to this stage of the competition. It will be a different test for the girls, because we'd have expected to win the games previously.

"We’ve done our homework on Reading and they are certainly a well-equipped and experienced team, so it will be a big ask for our young team.

"We are going to make the most of the experience and we hope to return to winning ways. We can just enjoy the football and the experience.”

The fourth round tie takes place at Farnborough FC on Sunday March 16th (kick-off 2pm). Entry is free.
