Club legend Bryan Douglas rounded off Rovers’ week-long Golden Ticket giveaway by surprising superfan Ian Leigh at his home.
Ian, who turns 70 later this year, was presented with a free season ticket for the 2014-15 Championship campaign by the former England international, who celebrated his 80th birthday last week.
Ian, from Oswaldtwistle, was nominated for the special prize by his son, John, who lives in Australia.
A life-long supporter and season ticket holder, Ian has produced generations of Rovers fans and used to sit with his two brothers in the Riverside, but sadly both have now passed away.
The 69-year-old briefly stopped coming to Ewood Park after having a heart attack in December 2012, but after his special delivery from ‘Dougie’, he now can’t wait for the upcoming campaign.
“I’m stuck for words,” said Ian, who enjoys his long-distance, Rovers-related Monday night chats with his son.
“I’ve got to say thank you very much to John. I knew he’d do something like this, but it came as a complete surprise!
“And to receive it off Bryan Douglas is great. He must be the best player we’ve ever had and was one of my heroes, along with Ronnie Clayton.
“I’ve been coming to games since I was knee-high and I’m really optimistic about next season.”
Rovers have given away a Golden Ticket every day this week to supporters nominated by family and friends. The club will be giving away 20 free season tickets in total to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Rovers’ 1994-95 Premiership title triumph.
