We're making steady progress

1 January 2014

As Rovers welcome in the new year with a match at Elland Road against Leeds United later today, boss Gary Bowyer believes that his side are showing promising signs of improvement.

At the midway point of the season, Rovers find themselves at the midway point of the league table, sitting in 12th place with 31 points from 23 games.

Insisting it is still very much a work in progress, the manager has enjoyed his first half-season in charge, but knows there is still plenty to improve upon and wants to see that in the second half of the season.

"I think overall we've made steady progress," Bowyer told Rovers Player.

"There is still a hell of a lot of work to be done within the squad and obviously the wage bill and that is something we'll look to address in January if we possible can but it is difficult because of contracts and what have you.

"I've had a lot of positive feedback from supporters in terms of how we are trying to play and the football we are playing so that has been pleasing.

"I've enjoyed the challenge of it and the youthful enthusiasm that we've brought into the squad and now we are expecting them to be a little bit more experienced going into the second half of the season and produce better results.

"I think we've got some very good young players that given a period of time together will gel and continue to grow and get better and better.

"So for the future of the club after what has happened over the last couple of years it is something that we recognised and we needed to make a start on. That is what it is, it is a start.

"Our performances have warranted more results but we have made individual errors that have cost us games. That is part of the learning process with young players, we need them to cut that out and continue with the vein of form with the ball and continue to make progress."

Tickets for the Elland Road match will be available on the day of the game from the visitors ticket office priced £34.00 Adults, £23.00 Senior Citizens aged 60+, £23.00 Full Time Students aged 22+, £23.00 Young Adults 16 - 21 and £16.00 Juniors under 16 years.
