Weekend loan watch

27 January 2014

Ten of Rovers' players out on loan saw match time over the weekend.

Yann Songo'o was on the scoresheet for Ross County at the weekend but his goal couldn't prevent the Staggies slipping to a 2-1 loss at home to Hearts.

The on-loan defender's powerful header right on half time ensured the scores were level at the break after Callum Paterson had given the visitors the lead.

Both Songo'o and Jordan Slew played the full match for County, but a late goal from Scott Robinson ensured it was Hearts who took all three points.

Rochdale's FA Cup campaign came to a spirited end as they lost 2-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

After a goalless first half the Owls scored twice in quick succession, and although Dale soon pulled a goal back they couldn't take advantage of Wednesday ending the match with ten men.

Jack O'Connell impressed once more in the heart of the Rochdale defence, playing the full match for Keith Hill's side.

Friday night saw Brentford return to the top of League One with a 2-1 win over Gillingham at Griffin Park.

Alan Judge played the full match for the Bees as goals from former Rover Jonathan Douglas and Marcello Trotta ensured a narrow victory.

David Goodwillie, who joined Blackpool last week, started Saturday's Bloomfield Road match against Doncaster Rovers on the substitute's bench.

The striker came on after 66 minutes as late goals from Andy Hallday and Billy Sharp saw the sides share a 1-1 draw.

Alex Marrow found the net once more as Fleetwood came away from Burton Albion impressive 4-2 winners.

However the on-loan midfielder scored one of two own goals to see the Brewers draw level at 2-2. His blushes were spared by late goals from Jon Parkin and Junior Brown saw the Cod Army triumph and move into the play-off places.

Torquay United remain in the bottom two of League Two as they slipped to a narrow 1-0 loss away at Oxford United.

Anthony O'Connor played the full match for the Gulls but despite a strong defensive display he couldn't stop Torquay losing once more.

Rovers duo Kellen Daly and John O'Sullivan both played the full match for Southport as they succumbed to a late goal at Barnet.

The Sandgrounders seemed set to earn a useful point on their travels until Mauro Vilhete's injury time header earned Barnet all three points.

Sunday saw Ruben Rochina make his Rayo Vallecano debut against Atletico Madrid.

Rochina started on the bench but came on just before the hour mark as Atletico edged this six-goal thriller 4-2.

Anton Forrester's Bury saw their match at Accrington Stanley called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
