Two young carers had a day to remember after being invited to meet their heroes as a reward for their tireless efforts at home.
Ben and Liam Talbot, who have spent the past two years looking after their mum, were treated to an exclusive visit to Rovers’ Brockhall training base.
The Rovers-mad brothers were given a behind-the-scenes tour, before watching the players train, having lunch in the canteen and then even sitting in on manager Gary Bowyer’s pre-match Press Conference.
Ben, who turned 18 in October, was delighted to be given the belated birthday present from the club.
He said: “I help my mum with medication and make sure everything’s done at the right time and because of the mental illness that she had, it’s important just to keep her spirits high.
“My favourite bit was watching the players train, because you see footballers on TV and they seem quite distant and somebody who is portrayed by the media as somebody different, but when you see them up close and personal in training, working hard and having a laugh with each other, I think it’s good to see that they’re just normal human beings like everyone else.”
Rovers boss Gary Bowyer added: “First and foremost, the two lads have been brilliant and they deserve this reward for what they do. It’s a massive sacrifice that they make and I’m sure their family really appreciate it and are very proud. Being able to do this, as a thank you to them, is an easy gesture on our behalf, but it’s something as a club that we definitely support.”
