Paul Robinson felt Rovers showed the perfect qualities to pick up all three points with Saturday's win over Doncaster.
It was a typical game of two halves at Ewood, Rovers dominant in the first half, the visitors having the better of the second.
In the end the match was settled by a single goal, Rudy Gestede rising high to head home at the end of the first half.
Robinson, making his first league start in 13 months, had a quiet afternoon. But in the final seconds was called upon to make two huge saves to ensure Rovers claimed all three points.
"It was important for us," said Robinson to Radio Rovers. "We played very very well in the first half but in the second half I think we didn't perform as well as we wanted to do.
"We had a few chances in the first half and their goalkeeper has made a decent save. We dominated the first half.
"We wanted to come out and put the game to bed in the first 10-15 minutes of the second half, the manager told us to go out and win the game rather than just scrape through.
"The second half they came into it so credit to them, they were a different side in the second half, they really had a go at us, they put us under pressure.
"The back four in front of me did very well, as did the midfield four, we defended from the front.
"But we are just pleased with the result in the end, we are delighted with the three points.
"It doesn't matter how you win, that was pretty ugly today but we won.
"It was one of the most important games of the season for us today, to come off the back of the Leeds win and the game against Man City, if we hadn't done anything today it would have meant that the Leeds result would have fallen into insignificance really."
