GB: Exciting times

2 January 2014

Gary Bowyer has spoken of his delight after Rovers secured the services of Rudy Gestede and Tom Cairney on permanent contracts.

With the January transfer window now officially open, the Rovers boss wasted little time in making the loan moves full time. Both players signing for undisclosed fees.

On Gestede, who grabbed his first Rovers goal in the New Years Day victory over Leeds United, the manager said: "We are absolutely delighted to get him on board full time.

"A lot of hard work has gone into it and we have to thank Cardiff City for allowing us to agree the deal.

"We've been after him for a while, we got him in on loan and now we are starting to see what he is capable of.

"He is someone that we knew would excite our fans and I think the fact that he got his first goal, and the manner of his first goal, shows what he is going to offer the club and offer the team.

"He's a different option for us, he's a top lad, his attitude is first class and he is fitting in well with what we are trying to achieve here."

Tom Cairney has been a popular addition to the squad since his August arrival from Hull City.

The 22-year-old has impressed in the first half of the season, with Bowyer having no hesitation in signing the midfielder on a permanent basis.

"It doesn't surprise me that he is a fans favourite, he is a very good footballer," added the Rovers boss.

"A great technician, a fabulous left foot, he's a creator of goals and chances, he just needs to score more goals himself and add that to his game.

"Again we are grateful to Hull City and Steve Bruce for firstly allowing him on loan and then being able to conclude the deal on a full time basis.

"It is exciting times ahead for him and for us with him in our team."
