Futsal squad make progress

29 January 2014

Rovers’ Futsal stars have made it through to the last 32 of the Soccer AM Futsal Cup Powered by NCS.

Following the first round of matches, Rovers finished above the likes of Preston North End, Morecambe and Accrington Stanley to secure second place in their respective league.

They will now play in the group stages on February 11th at Birmingham International Futsal Arena, where they will take on Huddersfield Town, Cheltenham Town and Leicester City.

From scenes of despair as clubs fall short, to scenes of euphoria as clubs progress, the cup drama is set to continue with the best of the action screened on Saturday’s Soccer AM until May 3rd, when the winning team will be awarded with the prize of a playing tour of Barcelona – one of Europe’s Futsal capitals!

The Football League Trust has kick-started Spring by announcing an exciting new partnership with the National Citizen Service to bring Futsal into the spotlight – the inaugural Soccer AM Futsal Cup Powered by NCS.

NCS is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity open to all 15 and 17-year-olds across England. It is a unique two or three-week full-time programme focused around fun and discovery, plus 30 hours committed to a community project that benefits both young people and society.

On this government-backed programme, participants build skills for work and life, while taking on new challenges and adventures, making new friends, learning new skills and contributing to their community.

The Football League Trust delivers NCS through 44 of its football clubs and organisations across England, with 17 of the 32 final clubs being NCS teams.

The Soccer AM Futsal Cup Powered by NCS is comprised of student-players participating in the pioneering Football League Trust Education & Futsal programme.

The programme provides 16 to 19-year-olds with the opportunity to score both on and off the pitch, as they study towards a BTEC Diploma in Sport with their local professional club’s community scheme. Graduates of the programme often progress to University, overseas football scholarships and careers within the vibrant sports industry. Football lovers moving into sixth-form education are encouraged to apply, as places start to fill up for next season at clubs across the country.
