Proud to lead the team

7 February 2014

Grant Hanley is delighted to be the club's new captain.

Speaking for the first time since the 22-year-old was given the responsibility of leading the team, Hanley admits that it is a proud moment for the young Scot and a challenge that he is relishing.

"Obviously it is a massive opportunity for me," said Hanley. "It is a massive challenge and something that I am proud of.

"Hopefully I can take the job on and settle in the role well and hopefully we can have a push towards the back end of the season.

"I've been captain under Gary before funnily enough, for the youth teams and then the reserves so it is something that I have experienced before.

"But obviously it is a lot different at first team level but it is something that I am looking forward to, it is a great opportunity for me so hopefully I can take it in my stride.

"I like to think I'm an organiser on the park, I like to talk and more than anything it helps to keep me concentrated.

"As long as I'm looking after myself and trying to help the lads around me I think we will do alright."

Hanley will lead the side out at the Riverside this Saturday when Rovers take on Middlesbrough. Tickets will be on sale on the day of the game from the away ticket office, cash only, priced at £27 Adults, £17 Seniors and £14 for Under 18s.
