Loan stars on target

3 February 2014

Anton Forrester and Yann Songo'o were both on the scoresheet this weekend.

Anton Forrester scored his 7th goal of the season as Bury defeated Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

The on-loan striker notched the only goal of the game, as his 34th minute strike ensured the Shakers picked up a huge three points.

Forester played 78 minutes at Gigg Lane as Bury gained a vital win over fellow strugglers Wycombe.

Also on the winning side in League Two on Saturday was Torquay United. The relegation-threatened Gulls defeated Portsmouth with a 1-0 away win.

Anthony O'Connor impressed once more in defence for United as Billy Bodin's first half strike was enough to give them side all three points.

Torquay remain in the bottom two but the win boosts their survival hopes.

However at the top of League Two Rochdale slipped up in their pursuit of a promotion spot as they fell to a 1-0 home loss to Dagenham & Redbridge.

Jack O'Connell played the full match as Keith Hill's side went down narrowly.

Rochdale remain in the play-off places, two points off Fleetwood Town who also tasted defeat on Saturday.

Alex Marrow missed out through injury as York City beat the Cod Army 2-1 at the Highbury Stadium.

In League One, Brentford had to settle for a point as they drew 1-1 away at Shrewsbury Town.

The Bees looked on course to consolidate their place at the top of the table when Alan Judge was fouled in the box on 68 minutes, and although Chris Weale saw his penalty saved, Marcello Trotta fired home the rebound.

Judge made way on 84 minutes but right on 90 the Shrews rescued a point when Tom Eaves struck.

Brentford remain table toppers, two points ahead of Wolves.

In the Scottish Premiership Yann Songo'o grabbed his second goal in as many games as Ross County let a two-goal lead slip at away at Kilmarnock.

Jordan Slew missed a great chance to open the scoring before Yoann Arquin put the Staggies in front. That lead was soon doubled by the Rovers defender, diverting the ball home on 36 minutes.

Ross County lead at the break but Kilmarnock struck twice trough Kris Boyd to earn the home side a share of the spoils.

Songo'o played the full match, Slew was replaced after 73 minutes.

DJ Campbell made his full debut for Millwall but couldn't match his goalscoring exploits from midweek as the Lions lost 3-0 at home to promotion-chasing Reading.

A first half strike from Pavel Pogrebnyak was followed by goals from Alex Pearce and Daniel Williams in the second in a comfortable win for the Royals.

Campbell played the full match for Millwall.

Also starting his first game for his loan club was Ruben Rochina. The Spaniard was in from the start as Rayo Vallecano drew 0-0 away at Levante.

Rochina played 64 minutes in the stalemate.

Fresh from extending their stay until the end of the season at Southport, John O'Sullivan and Kellen Daly were left frustrated as their Skrill Conference match against Braintree was postponed.
