Toon test for 21s

1 December 2014

Rovers Under-21s are back in action this Monday night when they take on Newcastle United at Leigh Sports Village.

Eric Kinder's side will be looking to get back to winning ways after crashing out of the Lancashire Senior Cup at the hands of Manchester United six days ago.

The Rovers coach knows it will be another tough task for his young squad as tonight's opponents currently sit top of Barclays Under 21 Premier League Division 2, with six wins from their eight matches played so far this campaign.

"Newcastle are top of the table, they have done ever so well this season," said Kinder.

"So it is another hard one, every game is hard in this division with Category 1. You are not going to find any easy games.

"We've done really well this season with the side we've had. We've got to keep picking points up for a mid-table finish or top half then I'd be absolutely delighted. That would mean we are making progress."

Rovers are expected to name a more youthful squad for this evening's match, although Chris Brown could get more game time following his appearance as a substitute in Saturday's dramatic 1-1 against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

Full team news will be confirmed later this afternoon.
