Start on the front foot

6 December 2014

Gary Bowyer has stressed the importance of starting today's match against Sheffield Wednesday in top gear.

The last three league games have seen Rovers have to come from behind to earn points, but as they prepare to take on Stuart Gray's Owls, Bowyer wants his team to be the ones to take the impetus.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's match, the Rovers boss said: "We've got to be better with the ball and impose ourselves on them, and get the first goal for a change, and really strive to kick on from that.

"We went to Middlesbrough and started ever so well in the first 15 minutes. It was probably the best that we have done for a while, especially away from home.

"It is something that we have spoke about with the players, it is a case of being on the front foot and trying to get that first goal.

"When you are at home there is an expectation from the supporters to go straight away and you need that patience in your game.

"It is up to us to continue with the spirit that we've shown and the character that we've shown and to improve on some of the the performances that we've put out recently.

"We know that Sheffield Wednesday won't stop for 90-off minutes and it is the same with us."
