Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday to participate in mass photographic event

6 December 2014

Representatives from the Great War Society will lead out the two teams this afternoon to mark the start of ‘Football Remembers’ week, which takes place from December 6th-14th.

Jeremy Lambert, badged as an Accrington Pal, will lead out the Rovers team, while Scott Knowles, who features in Sainsbury’s acclaimed Christmas advert, will be badged as a Sheffield Pal and will lead out the Owls.
Professional football is commemorating the centenary of one of the most iconic moments of the First World War - the 1914 Christmas Truce football match - with a week of remembrance activity.

As a mark of respect to those that played in the Christmas Truce match, the 22 players from today’s starting line-ups will pose together for a unique group photo prior to kick-off, called ‘A Moment in History’.

A collaboration between the Premier League, The FA and the Football League, in partnership with the British Council, its aim is to engage football fans about what took place on Christmas Day 1914 in Flanders, Belgium.
