Gary Bowyer has revealed that Tommy Spurr has undergone a minor operation to aid his recovery from injury.
Spurr played 45 minutes for the development squad at the end of September, but he is yet to feature for the first team this season after struggling to fully recover from a troublesome groin injury.
But after going under the knife earlier this week, it is hoped that the operation will speed up the process and he'll be back within weeks rather than spending longer on the sidelines.
"Tommy Spurr has had a little minor operation at the beginning of this week just to clear everything out and help him," said the Rovers boss. "So he shouldn't be too long now that he's had that.
"He was 90% there and just couldn't get through the last bit. They've just decided to just help him through that last little stage.
"His fitness levels are high so he's just got to recover from the little operation now and he should be back quite quickly. So we are delighted with that, because he's got a smile back on his face."
Rovers are back in action at Ewood this Saturday when Sheffield Wednesday are the visitors.
