King returns to bolster Rovers

18 December 2014

Gary Bowyer could welcome Josh King back into the squad for this weekend's match against Charlton Athletic.

The Norwegian international has missed the last ten games for Rovers after picking up a back injury whilst on World Cup duty for his country in October. But after coming through an impressive 45 minutes for the Under-21s on Wednesday night, the forward could come into contention.

The Rovers boss admits they've missed the attacking options that King offers, so was delighted to see him make his return ahead of a crucial stage of the season.

"Last night we had a major boost as Josh King played 45 minutes for the reserves and scored," said Bowyer.

"We have probably been missing his pace if I'm being honest, so he is going to provide a massive boost for us at a crucial time over the Christmas period.

"He got 45 minutes and was impressive. He is someone that we have missed so he'll go back into the squad as long as he is okay and trains well on Friday."

In addition to King, Rovers' squad is likely to be bolstered by the return of three further players, with Chris Brown, Matt Kilgallon and Chris Taylor all available for selection once more.

Brown and Kilgallon have recovered from knee knocks, whilst Taylor is better after illness laid him low last week.

That leaves Bowyer with just Tom Cairney and Tommy Spurr sidelined, but it is hoped that both will return sooner rather than later.

Bowyer added: "We think Browny will be okay and Cairney is going to be touch and go.  But if he doesn't make this weekend then certainly he'll be playing at Bolton.

"Killa is back training, he's had a full week with us again so he's another one that goes back into the squad.

"Tommy joined in for the first time yesterday. He only did a bit but that is pleasing following his minor operation, so hopefully he could be back over the Christmas period."
