Under-21 boss Eric Kinder believes John O'Sullivan wouldn't let the first team down if called upon over the festive period.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international completed an impressive three month loan spell with Accrington Stanley last week and is now eligible to play for Rovers once more.
O'Sullivan has just the one appearance to his name for the Rovers first team, but his Under-21s coach feels he could play his part over the next few games.
“He has done ever so well," said Kinder. “I’ve seen John six times and he’s taken League Two by storm.
“Going forward he is very, very impressive. I’m always on to him about his defensive side of his game, which we argue about, but he’s done ever so well.
“He’s back with us over Christmas and I’m sure he’ll train with the first team and be available for the Christmas fixtures and who knows what will happen in January.
“Can he make the step up another league or can be break into our first team? That’s up to the gaffer but there’s no doubt John has left me. He’s not part of the U21s anymore even though his age says he is.
“He’s gone beyond us now and he needs to keep progressing like he has been doing.”
