Past Rovers and Burnley players got into the swing of things as they renewed rivalries – on the golf course!
The former players were joined by members of Stonyhurst Park Golf Club to play in a four-ball stableford shotgun competition.
Matt Jansen, Ken Beamish, Graham Oates, Derek Fazackerley, Simon Barker, Ian Miller and Duncan McKenzie from Rovers went head-to-head with Ian Brennan, Marcus and Mike Phelan and Chris Pierce from East Lancashire rivals Burnley.
The day raised £3,000, which was shared evenly between the Former Players Associations of both clubs, as well as Stonyhurst’s chosen charity of the year – Prostate Cancer UK.
Following the golf, a dinner was held at the Shireburn Arms in Hurst Green, where Duncan McKenzie entertained everyone with some tales and anecdotes, and the golfers were joined by a number of supporters from Stonyhurst Park for the presentations.
However, after several recounts, the overall result was a tie and the trophy was shared! Battle will recommence at Nelson Golf Club next year.
