Head coach Amanda Goodwin says she is pleased with how her Rovers’ Girls Under-17s side have performed during the first half of the season.
The Centre of Excellence starlets have won six of their opening seven games, scoring plenty of goals, and have progressed through to the second round of the FA Girls’ Youth Cup, where they will take on Everton this weekend.
Goodwin said: “We started the season off with convincing wins over Everton, Stoke and Manchester United, which gave the girls a massive confidence boost and it's exactly what they deserve, as from day one of pre-season they have been fantastic and their attitude to training has been exceptional.
“The 4-3 defeat to Liverpool was a little disappointing, as we should have got something out of the game, but that's football. But what the players did, was pick themselves back up and record three straight wins, two against Derby and then getting revenge over Liverpool with an emphatic 7-1 win.
“We go into the New Year top of the table, with an impressive goal difference, but we can't be complacent as teams will come to stop us and we need to make sure we are professional and we continue to work hard on and off the pitch.
“We have built up a really good work ethic and togetherness this season. Each player knows their role and responsibility within the squad and we have a great foundation in place with all the staff that work with the 17s.
“We are still in the FA Girls’ Youth Cup, having beaten Sheffield U17s 2-0 at home in the first round. We take on Everton in the next round and we know it won't be an easy game, so training this week has been stepped up to prepare ourselves well for the game. Let's hope we can continue in the cup and build on last year’s semi-final place.
“We will continue to work hard and I am very much looking forward to the second part of the season with a brilliant bunch of players.”
